The Cult Of Linux
Forbes.com staff, 07.19.02, 12:00 PM ET

NEW YORK - According to Linux legend, a revered teacher and researcher told Linus Torvalds that he "would not get a high grade" for his creation. Thankfully for millions of devoted users and thousands of blue-chip customers, Torvalds went ahead with his development of the Linux operating system.

Eleven years later, it's hard to find a customer or a technology provider that is not thinking about how to work Linux into their long-term strategy. This week we'll take a look at this software and what it has meant for competitors, customers and investors.
