Ambitious was the first word that came to mind when I read about the new African- American Heritage Trail recently unveiled by Louisiana’s Office of Tourism. Most history-related tours have a narrow focus, and their sites are usually close together. The state of Louisiana has decided to try a different approach, embracing 26 sites devoted to all aspects of African-American history, from the colonial period to the present day, located throughout the state from Shreveport in the north to New Orleans in the south.
