Priceline Promotes Boyd; AMD Chairman Sanders Buys Stock
Davide Dukcevich, 11.29.02, 12:00 PM ET

NEW YORK - Doers and doings in business, entertainment and technology:

Name your own price Internet travel company Priceline.com (nasdaq: PCLN - news - people ) named 46-year-old Jeffrey Boyd president and chief executive. He assumes the titles in a very inauspicious time. The company's stock lost more than 25% of its value earlier this month after posting results that were badly wounded by weakness and discounting in the airline industry. The firm announced it was going to combat the challenges by cutting 15% of its staff. Boyd was Priceline.com's president and had shared the company's CEO responsibilities with Chairman Richard S. Braddock. Braddock, 60, will continue as priceline.com's non-executive Chairman. Boyd has been with the firm since 2000. More...

Advanced Micro Devices (nyse: AMD - news - people ) Chairman Jerry Sanders is also banking on a pickup. Sanders bought 300,000 shares of stock in of his semiconductor maker last week, according to a U.S. regulatory filing at $6.89 per share. The deal has paid off--at least in the short term: AMD shares closed at $8 yesterday on the New York Stock Exchange. More...

The Sophoclean war between Adelphia Communications (otc: ADELQ - news - people ) and its founding father, John Rigas, has gotten even meaner. The cable television firm asked a bankruptcy court to freeze assets of the Rigas family in which it may have a stake. The move comes about five months after Adelphia filed a suit against John Rigas and his sons, alleging that they used company funds for personal use and disclosing false financial reports. In June, the company filed for bankruptcy protection after defaulting on $7 billion in bank loans. In its motion this week, Adelphia is looking to broaden an order issued by the court last summer that prevented the Rigases from taking any action to sell or transfer any real estate property under their control.
